Psychology
Clark University enjoys a strong partnership with Worcester and makes its students part of its vibrant community, working closely with businesses and organizations through community service projects, internships, research opportunities, and internships. Atwood Hall, Jefferson Academic Center, Higgins University Center, Jonas Clark Hall, and Goddard Library surround the Green, where most students spend most of their time during warmer months. Both graduate and undergraduate programs feature a shared curriculum focused on hands-on learning in small classes taught by expert faculty; its renowned journal in economic geography boasts the longest continuous run ever and its faculty have earned reputations as both scholars and pioneers.
Students have the chance to work closely with faculty on meaningful research projects and take advantage of a range of centers and institutes at the University, such as its Jacob Hiatt Center for Urban Education dedicated to urban teacher education and school reform, or its George Perkins Marsh Institute which conducts collaborative, interdisciplinary research into human-environment relationships. Students can discover opportunities both to explore their individual interests as well as contribute meaningful solutions for real world issues through these avenues.
Michino Yoshida and Florcy Romero, Geography seniors both, share an interest in personal relationships and believe that our concept of "home" extends beyond physical borders. Both students want to bring forward narratives silenced by dominant culture to provide healing and solidarity among themselves and others.
As part of their GSG studies, both students can take advantage of participating in a summer research program through the Peter J. Condakes Research Fellowship for Undergraduates in Geosciences. This fellowship program is open to GSG, Global Environmental Studies and Environment students (earth systems science track only), who have an in-depth project idea with one or more faculty members. Other opportunities available at Clark include collaborations such as UPCS between University of Massachusetts Amherst and University of Rhode Island to investigate how climate change is impacting urban communities in terms of urban ecology research opportunities;
Environmental Science
Clark University provides students who choose geography or environmental science with an unparalleled combination of academic excellence and hands-on research opportunities. Their faculty are experts in diverse areas such as environmental policy, land-use planning and economic development, geographic information systems (GIS), forest monitoring, biodiversity conservation, urban and rural ecology, natural climate solutions, food security and human-environment interactions.
GSG graduate and undergraduate students participate in vital research that addresses some of the world's most urgent real-world problems. George Perkins Marsh Institute at Yale is an invaluable center of translational research that draws upon GSG faculty expertise for translational research that addresses "an array of pressing real-world challenges" -- such as shellfish aquaculture, marine plastic pollution solutions for agriculture and pollinator conservation.
The Institute's research program is funded through numerous grants and awards, such as the Edna Bailey Sussman Fund grant that funds summer research by master's and doctoral students at GSG on projects ranging from using satellites with artificial intelligence for flood tracking to investigating how socio-environmental factors influence urban forests' existence and growth. Other funding sources for research at the Institute include its International Research and Exchanges program as well as LEEP Projects Fund.
Undergraduate students majoring in geography, global environmental studies or earth system sciences also have the chance to gain career-ready research experience through sponsored fellowships such as Peter J. Condakes Summer Research Fellowship Award for Geography Undergraduates; Steinbrecher Fellowship Program; Lois and Robert Green Urban Development and Social Change Summer Internship and others. Clark also hosts its own undergraduate research conference called ClarkFEST which gives them an opportunity to share their work among like-minded scholars and professionals.

In addition to rigorous academics, your studies may allow for engagement with community partners, internship opportunities and the development of leadership skills.
Students interested in becoming global citizens will also have an opportunity to join the Global Citizenship Project, an interdisciplinary student-led initiative addressing global issues through collaborative projects. Students work with community partners to make a difference and produce lasting solutions, learning how to analyze a problem, create an action plan, and communicate their solution effectively in order to solve it.
Students are strongly encouraged to share their knowledge, skills and strengths with the Worcester community through volunteering. This might involve tutoring fellow students or high schoolers; playing team sports; or volunteering with student clubs and organizations. Worcester State offers several free services designed to foster student success and wellbeing - such as the Healthy Minds Program - so volunteering could become part of your educational experience at Worcester.
Worcester was originally established in 1722 and named for a city in England; ever since its residents have mispronounced the name. This fall, students gathered on campus green for Spree Day events, welcome back BBQs, graduation ceremonies, and graduation celebrations. On this campus green are Atwood Hall, Jefferson Academic Center, Higgins University Center Jonas Clark Hall and Goddard Library all located.
